The Dark Tower: The Drawing of the Three

Stephen King

5/5

"I loved it"

One of my favorite fiction books of all time. The writing is incredible, and there are some really well-written action scenes. Stephen King is such a poet with words. The world building kicks it up a bit in this book, and you start to understand Roland a bit more. I really liked the 3 doors he comes across and the variation of characters and situations you are exposed to as a reader. Seeing Roland interact with people from different time periods is certainly interesting.

The writing gets a bit dark when he meets the third character (“death, but not for you,” the black man had said) who is essentially a murderer who gets off (literally) via hurting others. A bit too dark for my taste. Thankfully he dies quickly and isn’t allowed time to speak or control himself much after we are introduced.

I’m excited for the rest of the series. I really like the world-building so far… so many books to go.
